Philippians 4:6-7
____________
Does anxiety tear you down? Are you often overwhelmed by fear? Despite everything that is happening in the world, God’s word gives us great reason not to be anxious. We can be confident no matter what because we have a sovereign God who is reigning over all. This is our hope. Today, I’d like to focus on few Scripture verses about not being afraid. Grab your Bible, a journal, and pen as we dive deep into God’s word!
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let
your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all
comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
Paul reminds us to be anxious for nothing. Nothing! It doesn’t matter how hard we worry. It won’t change anything. Fear tears us down and causes us to stop trusting God. Instead, we are commanded to make our request known to God through prayer with thanksgiving. In Matthew 11:28, Jesus welcomes all the weary and heavy burdened to come to Him and find rest. When we lay all our burdens at the feet of our Savior, God’s peace which surpasses all understanding keeps us. This is the same peace that Jesus gives His disciples in John 14:27. As Jesus gives us His peace, He commands us not to be troubled or afraid. In this same passage, Jesus tells us that in this world we will face many tribulations, but to take heart, for He has overcome the world. Let that sink in for a moment. Jesus has overcome! He defeated death and sin at the cross. He has secured our salvation with His resurrection!
No matter what we face in this world, we can have confidence in our Redeemer, who is victorious. The peace of God will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Matthew 6:25-34 reminds us not to worry about tomorrow but to live each day trusting God. We do not need to worry about what will become of our lives; instead, we should be concerned that the gospel is spread around the world. When we start worrying, we lose sight of our Heavenly Father. Rather, when we are overwhelmed with worry and fear, we must cling to God’s promises. Jesus promises us that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He never changes. As we close today, I want to remind you of Isaiah 41:10 and Colossians 3:15. Do not be afraid, for the Lord is with you. He will help and uphold you. Let the peace of Christ rule in your mind. With God’s help you can overcome fear and have faith in your Savior.
Reflect:
⋒ John 14:27
⋒ Isaiah 41:10
⋒ Joshua 1:9
⋒ Matthew 11:28
⋒ Matthew 6:25-34
Listen:
⋒ I Will Fear No More
⋒ He Will Hold Me Fast
⋒ Christ Our Hope in Life and Death
⋒ It Is Well with My Soul
Pray:
What is worrying you today? Spend some time in prayer giving it over to God and clinging to His promises.
